The reception of migrants in Italy is a topic that divides public opinion, generating contrasting feelings that range from solidarity to rejection. The reasons for this hostility may be material in nature, linked to the fear that the arrival of migrants could compromise the labor market and access to welfare services, or ideological, influenced by cultural prejudices and stereotypes.<\/p>\n

One of the main factors fueling dissent is the often distorted perception of the reality of migration. Italians tend to overestimate the number of foreigners in the country, compounded by the political and media narrative of \u201cus versus them,\u201d which often paints migrants as a threat, emphasizing isolated incidents of crime and omitting the positive contribution that many of them bring to society. Public opinion is polarized: 68% support the right to reception, but 67.7% want to limit it. However, hostility is not uniform across age groups: young people, more exposed to cultural diversity and less influenced by traditional rhetoric, show greater openness than older generations.<\/p>\n

Another significant aspect concerns the differentiation among migrants. In fact, there are \u201cseries A\u201d and \u201cseries B\u201d migrants: refugees from culturally closer contexts, such as Ukraine, receive a warmer welcome than those from Africa or the Middle East. This selective attitude raises questions about how much solidarity is truly unconditional or rather dictated by ethnic and religious affinities.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, immigration is not the cause of Italy\u2019s economic and social problems, but rather a challenge that requires rational responses and inclusive strategies. Fueling fear does not resolve critical issues, but only risks amplifying the gap between the different components of society.
